We are sorry you are experiencing an issue with your product!

If you suspect your product was damaged during shipment, please contact our Customer Service Team immediately by emailing info@tuscanbull.com.

To help expedite your concern, please see the general guidelines below to help determine if your product will be considered defective by our review team.

Please note that like us humans no two bulls are exactly the same, nor are they perfect. It is normal that the bull hides can have some imperfections. These are natural markings that come from being an organic material and should be viewed as features that make every belt unique with its own identity.

Definition of a defective product:

A Defective Product is an imperfection in a product that has a manufacturing or design defect.

Examples of what is not considered defective:

Worn stitching due to normal wear

Damage that is a result of misuse, normal wear and tear or damage that occurred during storage

Product acquired from aftermarket sources such as online auction sites, liquidators, consignment shops, private sellers, and salesman samples

Improper fit. Fit is the responsibility of the owner and should be assured within the 15-day return window

Comfort issues

Care

How do I care for leather?

All Tuscan Bull leather goods are made of 100% natural, organic material, so they are not impervious to the elements! Make sure that your leather goods do not get wet, and it is best to store in rooms with moderate humidity. If the leather does get wet, simply blot with a dry soft cloth. You may notice a light stain or “water blister” but this should fade away when the leather fully dries.

How do I clean leather?

If you need to clean your leather good, the best way is to use saddle soap (follow the directions closely!). Then apply a small amount of leather conditioner such as Filson’s, Lexol or Farnam to a soft, damp cloth (again, follow the directions closely) and rub into the leather in a circular motion. Once applied, let dry and buff lightly with a soft, clean cloth. Never ever use solvents, harsh abrasive cleaners, or commercial soaps. You risk damaging the product and could remove the natural finish on the leather.

What do I do if my product gets scratched?

Light scratches and fingernail drags normally buff out easily with a soft cloth or by burnishing with your thumb.

Will the color of the belt rub off on my clothes?

If your belt gets wet there may be a transfer of color from the natural dyes used to color the leather onto clothing or car seats.

Leather

What is Vegetable Tanned Leather?

Vegetable tanning is the oldest method of tanning, dating back to prehistoric times. Tannins are natural preservatives that enable us to convert a raw hide into a compact and resilient material. Tannins can be found in a wide variety of plants and trees and the concentration varies between species; we use primarily Chestnut tannin in our process. All the products we use in the process are 100% natural and our leather is 100% biodegradable.

The vegetable tanning process is very laborious as the hides get soaked in wooden drums multiple times during different stages of the process; each hide gets handled more than 75 times from start to finish. Once we have removed the hair, we then re-tan, dry, color and condition, dry again and finish.

Tuscany is the heart of Vegetable Tanning with highly guarded recipes and methods that have been passed down for generations. The skill and experience of the craftsman is essential as each piece is made by hand. Tuscan Bull full vegetable tanned leather is unique from other full vegetable tanned leathers in this sense, while remaining distinctive to the heritage of the process.

Why Vegetable Tanned Leather?

In people, strength and beauty come from within. The same is true with leather. Full vegetable tanning uses all natural tannin extracts to transform the raw material into an exceptionally strong yet soft leather that develops a rich, deep patina over time. No synthetics or chemicals are used, ever. And it shows. Tuscan Bull full vegetable tanned leather improves with age and use, and the tannins impart a warm tone in the leather which tends to become more pronounced over time and with regular use.

Why Bull Hides?

We use 100% Bull Hides as they are thicker than hides from steers or cows; in fact, they are the only hides that can give us the desired thickness of 3.8-4.0mm in a single ply that we prefer for our belts.

What is Double-Butt and why is it superior for making belts?

The double butt is the most suitable part of the hide for the belt because it has a very regular and square shape, so that every inch can be used. The double butt cut also has a very compact and tight fiber structure, something that is important to quality belt makers.

Product

What should I look for in a belt?

Leather quality: the highest quality raw material in the world comes from northern Europe.

Symmetry: The belt tip should be perfectly symmetrical.

Edge and hole painting: Quality edge painting will not crack or wear away quickly and will last many years.

Stitch detail: The number of stitches per centimeter and the distance between each stitch should be even throughout the belt.

Backside finish: The backside resin finish should be smooth and tight without any rough or hairy spots. It should not transfer to fabric.

Buckle: Solid Brass is the best and most sustainable metal for buckles.

Belt Sizing

What size belt should I buy?

We DO NOT recommend using your waist size or pant size when making your order.

To get the correct fit, we recommend using a measuring tape! For the most accurate result, measure your waist (where you wear your belt) and add 2 inches or 5cm. If you measure your waist and it is 36”, order a 38” belt. If your measurement is an odd number, go up 3 inches. For example, if you measure at 37”, order a 40” belt.

How to measure your belt:

  • Lay the belt flat and straight on a table
  • Measure from the hole you usually use to the end of the buckle

Remember, if you are in doubt, go up a size!

For more information, view our sizing chart

How many holes are on each belt?

On the Lucca, Firenze and Toscana there are 6 holes for greater sizing range. On the Maremma belt there are 10 holes so that the Maremma can be used as a sling, a hoist, or to carry large unwieldy bundles such as firewood or a sleeping bag.

How far apart are the holes on the belts?

The holes on Tuscan Bull belts are roughly 2.5cm (1”) apart on center.

Will the belt fit through my belt loops?

All of our belts are 38mm (1 ½”) wide and fit through the majority of belt loops.

Do you carry large sizes?

Please contact us for sizes larger than 48

Buckle Swapping

Can I remove the buckles so I can add my own?

Yes, Tuscan Bull makes it super simple to swap out buckles with a D-ring Screw and stud system. Simply apply pressure to the stud while using the D-ring keeper on the screw to unscrew from the stud. Change out the buckle, re-align the stud and screw and gently press the screw into the stud. Once the threads of the screw are aligned, simply tighten the D-ring while applying pressure to the face of the stud until tight and secure. Off you go – it’s that simple.

Product Guarantee

Do you offer a Lifetime Guarantee?

‘In Domitare’. From the Latin, it means ‘unconquerable.’ That is the spirit of Tuscan Bull. It is in that spirit that we offer a lifetime guarantee on the unconquerable functionality of all our full grain, 100% natural, full vegetable tanned leather goods. This means that if your Tuscan Bull leather good ever stops functioning, we will repair or replace it for free, for life.

This guarantee covers product material and construction under intended wear and use. Full grain leather is not intended to be exposed to water for prolonged periods of time. Although you can wear your Tuscan Bull leather goods in all types of weather, if they get excessively or regularly soaked and dried, the leather will become damaged, and void the guarantee. All of our solid brass belt buckles are guaranteed against breakage and can be replaced. All buckles with finishes or plating, however, will eventually show signs of wear, which are not covered by the guarantee.
