Sustainability

Tuscan Bull Leather Goods and our tannery partners are committed to sustainability. It’s easy to say, but we feel the need to explain in more detail to our customers how we are sustainable by sharing the transparency of our tannery processes that take their cue from ancient traditions and combine them with innovative research and state-of-the-art technology.

Leather already represents an example of circular economy as the hides we use for tanning are a direct by-product of the beef industry.

Our LWG Gold-rated tanneries are focused on moving from the use of substances derived from the “Fossil Economy” to the “Natural Economy” with an eye toward sustainability, quality, and safety for those who produce as well as the end consumer. With a focus on reducing the impact on the environment, we have maximized the reuse of production waste, minimized the use of products derived from chemical synthesis, and use 100% natural products and tannins in our production and finishing processes.

What we have achieved

  • Raw Material sourced 100% from European Union countries with farm to slaughterhouse traceability
  • Nondestructive hair removal with a recovery of the hair to be used in biofertilizers, and consequently less use of chemical products and 80% reduction in the polluting load in the water
  • 20% reduction in water consumption
  • 90% reduction of bleaching and degreasing agents
  • Tannin Extracts - 100% sourced from FSC forests (controlled forests, cut only with replantation) and extracts from leaves and fruits
  • 50% reduction in the use of products derived from chemical synthesis
  • 100% reuse of tanning baths

The Results

Our Full Vegetable tanned leathers are 100% biodegradable at the end of the product life cycle as a result of the tannage’s chemical-biological characteristics.

Made in Tuscany and made to last a lifetime, we are proud of our continued efforts to produce beautiful and unique belts, bags, and accessories that can live up to the Tuscan Bull promise: Strong By Nature.
